Happiness...its something we all long for, whether knowingly or subconsciously..its the reason we do the things we love, hang around the people we choose to hang around, and the reason we occupy ourselves with certain hobbies. I had an interesting conversation with a friend yesterday about happiness and we briefly had a harmless argument about what the definition of happiness was exactly..after a few back-and-forth viewpoints, we realized that we couldn't come to neutral grounds because happiness doesn't have any one definition. It is an energy created by self to maintain well-being of the mind, body and soul. It's a certain level of joy and comfort in one's own being. At least that was how i defined it...her definition of it was completely different, and respectively. The reason i think so many relationships fold is because we so often look for others to bring us that happiness that we look for our whole lives...when that person fails to deliver that happiness or certain amount of love that we are expecting, we feel as though our partners have fell short. However, the sooner one realizes that the ultimate happiness is created by self, is the sooner he or she finds life to be more fulfilling...

That is a very good question. I recently had my own shot at defining happiness, which aims to be more "scientific" and "objective" despite being a subjective feeling: http://www.spreadinghappiness.org/2009/08/what-is-happiness/
